The Discovery – Terry Lee Wells Nevada is a story of greed and deceit set in the yearnings of an ambitious young widow named Rachel Clark (Haylie Duff). Rachel’s brother, Ben, wants her to take on a small piece of his fortune and move to Reno to take care of his dying father. Rachel’s aunt, Coral, does not want her to leave behind her infant daughter, Summer, but realizes that if she does so, then there will be nothing left for Summer to live on. When Summer is taken away in an accident, Rachel devotes her time to finding a cure for her dying father and making sure that no one else sees the evidence that will help her save her baby.

With the help of a private detective, Louis B. Parks, Rachel uncovers a trail of murder, fraud, and political intrigue which will ultimately reveal the underside of the city’s colorful and lustrous life. Using newly discovered information, Rachel is able to help the police solve the case, but she discovers that the culprit is more complex than she thought. Meanwhile, Ben and Coral learn that they have something in common. With the threat of the discovery looming over their heads, the pair must work together in order to prevent it from falling into the wrong hands. Their bond blossoms quickly, and they begin to share their experiences with each other in order to help their case.

Based on the novel The Discovery by Terry Lee Wells, The Discovery features a wide range of supporting characters including the detectives as well as their suspects. The book’s plot is centered around the relationship between two detectives, Ben and Coral. Their unlikely affiliation toward each other provides the novel with its main storyline. The two detectives, Ben and Coral, find themselves facing a major case involving forged documents, money laundering, and murder. The discovery, they unearth will have ramifications for both their personal lives and their careers.

Throughout the case, Wells creates a very likable protagonist. He portrays Coral Wells as an enthusiastic, but sometimes difficult woman who wants to see justice done. The discovery they make to track down the culprit is exciting and fun for readers, but the twists and turns that occur throughout the story can be slightly confusing at times. Sometimes the character is not given enough information to understand the reason behind her motives, which is one of the reasons I felt the book lost some of its momentum towards the end.
